Peggy Irene
(Weston) Tunell
Jan 11, 1936 — Jun 17, 2026
Peggy Irene (Weston) Tunell passed away June 17, 2026, at the age of 90. In 2022, after living on her farm east of Savannah for forty years, she reluctantly, but out of necessity, relocated to Amazonia to be cared for by her daughters.
Peggy was born on January 11, 1936, in Skidmore, Missouri, the oldest daughter of William Nelson Weston and Ada Irene (Allen) Weston. In 1943 when Bill and Ada Irene moved to Kansas City to work at the North American Bomber Plant, Peggy and her sister, Helen, made their home with their grandparents, Bill and Jessie Allen in Graham, Missouri. Ada Irene and Bill later divorced and each remarried.
Peggy graduated from Graham High School in 1954. After graduation she raised livestock, farmed, and continued to live on her grandparents' farm until her marriage to Colon R. Tunell on April 12, 1963.
Through her marriage to Colon, she gained a stepdaughter, Connie Lynn, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Peggy and Colon made their home on a farm south and west of the White Cloud bottoms, in Barnard, Missouri, where they raised row crops, livestock and always grew a big garden. In addition to the livestock and crops, Peggy and Colon raised two daughters, Rebecca Colene (Becky) born in 1965 and Elizabeth Raelene born in 1966. Peggy had a heart for all animals and raised many different species at one time or another, but she had a special fondness for sheep and goats.
In 1982, Peggy and Colon purchased their farm and moved east of Savannah. There, they continued to raise a few cows, sheep, and goats. In the mid to late 80's, Peggy worked at Shady Lawn and after some time, she became an activity aide for NMPRC in St. Joseph. During her years there, she enjoyed working in the greenhouse before retiring from NMPRC in early 2006.
Of utmost importance to Peggy was her belief in God. She enjoyed many years of attending Christ's Church in St. Joseph, until her health prevented her from being able to attend.
Peggy is survived by her daughters, Becky (Rodney) Wandfluh and Elizabeth (Jeff) Davison; grandchildren, Natasha R. Christmas (Cody Herpel), R. Wade Wandfluh (Courtnay Menard), Cami R. (Collin) Gandy, Dawn Payne, Dana Payne and Jessica Cavender; great grandchildren, Everly Seiter, Elsie Wandfluh, Maysen Gandy, twins Charlotte and Cooper Wandfluh, Erin Payne and Zayne McCracken; three great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Colon, stepdaughter, Connie Payne; great granddaughter, Toni Payne; her sister, Helen Dozier; her father, William N. Weston; her mother, Ada Irene Taylor; stepfather, Eddie Bruce Taylor; and her half-sister, Vivian Fern (Taylor) Clements.
In recent years, Peggy was given great companionship by Lo Brown to whom the family extends their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation.
Celebration of life to be held at a later date.
