Margie Ann
Holland
May 9, 1949 — Jul 16, 2026
Margie Ann Holland, 77, of Saint Joseph Missouri passed into eternal life on July 16, 2026, at her home in Saint Joseph Missouri after a lengthy fight with cancer. Margie was born on May 9, 1949, in Davenport, Iowa to Edwin Burns Holland and Loy (Schamaun) Holland. She was named after her father’s only sibling, Margie (Holland) Bozarth. Edwin worked for a utility company in Davenport and was transferred to Saint Joseph when Margie was 6 weeks old. The family took the train from Davenport to Saint Joseph and stayed their first night at the Robidoux Hotel and moved into their forever home, across the street from Bartlet Park the next day. After the move, the family welcomed younger brothers Thomas and David.
Margie was a member of Second Presbyterian Church and was very proud of her perfect attendance for 16 years! Margie attended Blair grade school, Bliss Junior High, and Central High School. She graduated from Central High School in 1967 and then attended MWSC and earned a bachelor’s degree in education with minors in English and history. While in college, she was a sister in the Phi Mu Sorority and was an FAA certified Fly Girl receptionist at Wal-Air Aviation.
Margie taught school for several years and then shifted her focus to retail. Interesting note, when we were kids on a family vacation in Arkansas, Aunt Elsie kept asking if we wanted to visit a dime store. Margie was excited thinking “oh boy toys!” She was disappointed when we left the store empty handed. Aunt Elsie told Margie someday you will look for this man. Margie’s response was how can I look for him when he is in Arkansas and I am in Missouri. That man was Sam Walton. He must have planted a seed in her mind as she eventually worked 34 years in retail.
Margie was kind and generous to everyone she knew and often lent a helping hand to strangers. Her favorite hobbies were baking cookies, genealogy, scrapbooking, and adopting kittens. You could always count on an assorted box of Christmas cookies! She was the family historian and loved to document the findings from her genealogy research in her scrapbooks.
Margie is survived by sister Cheryll (Al) Dawson, brothers Thomas (Edie) Holland, and David (Jeannette) Holland. She is reunited with her parents, Edwin and Loy Holland, six aunts, one uncle, and several cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 1 from 6pm – 9pm at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Freudenthal Health services for their support, guidance, and compassion, and a special shout out to Gabriella who shared Margie’s love of scrapbooking and showed her so much kindness.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the St Joseph Animal Services or the Open Door Food Kitchen, in honor of Margie.
