Obituary

Larry Dean Petty,84, of St Joseph, MO, passed away on October 17th, 2026, in his home, surrounded by his family. Larry was born April 1942, in Marysville, MO. to parents, the late Wava Kathleen Morgan and Thomas Tyne Petty.

Larry was preceded in death wife Lucille and son Robbie plus numerous aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his aunt, Martha Christman and daughters Mary Sue Petty Deshon, Michelle Manley, Tammy Ragan (Michael), grandchildren Megan Runge (Ben), Morgan Deshon (Ryder), Devin McMurray (Rob), Shelby Auxier, Ryan Manley and Lexi Manley. Along with great grandchildren Sophia, Talia, Amelia, Waylan and Charlie. And nieces and nephews. Finally, his precious dog Molly, who was his beloved companion.

Larry wore many hats and held numerous positions in his lifetime. In the 1970’s Larry started working with Walter and Betty Roth at Hurd Auction company. It was his love of auctions that lead him to purchase a building and open St. Joe Furniture and Auction CO with his wife Lucille Petty and friend Patrick McCarthy. They built a wonderful business and formed lasting friendships over the last 30 years they were in business. He retired soon after his wife passed in 2004.

During his retirement he spent his time working in his barn on numerous projects and helping his friends. As he grew older, he started to slow down and enjoy the experience of having grandchildren. In his final years the love of his grandchildren became his greatest joy.

Larry will be remembered for the love he had for his family and the bond he formed with his friends. The one thing everyone can agree on is that Larry knew what he was talking about and could always be counted on.

As per Larry’s wishes, there will be no funeral. He wants to be cremated and spread all over St. Joe. Afterwards, he wants his daughters to throw a party for his friends and celebrate his life.

Details regarding his celebration of life will follow soon.
