Kreipe
Nov 22, 1951 — Aug 22, 2023
St. Joseph
Katherine Gaul Kreipe, 71, of St. Joseph, MO passed away on August 22, 2023. Kathy was born on November 22, 1951 in Holton, KS and grew up in Atchison, KS.
She attended Emporia State University and later graduated from Missouri Western State College with a degree in education. She went on to teach Language Arts in St. Joseph, at Bishop LeBlond High School, Benton High School, Central High School, and Robidoux Middle School.
Kathy was an avid reader, gardener, baker, and dog lover. Also an Anglophile, she discovered a love for Pembroke Welsh Corgis (the same breed of dogs that Queen Elizabeth II had). She learned much about the breed by attending dog shows and in that, found a new hobby. Kathy was an advocate for breed and pet education, joined the St. Joseph Kennel Club eventually serving as club Secretary, and participated in many shows with several of her dogs.
She showed two of her dogs, Jerry (Ch. Tartan's I Am I Said, CGC) and Rhys (Ch. Kallista's By Starlight Beguiled, CGC), to championship. With Rhys she trained for and earned his Canine Good Citizenship award, allowing them to participate in Pet Partners events such as visiting hospitals and schools. Kathy enjoyed traveling around the country for dog events, especially when able to visit her daughter in Texas. She also started her own dog baking company, The Decadent Dog, selling specialty homemade dog treats.
A doting and much beloved mother, Kathy is survived by her daughter Joanna Teubner (Leggio). Also surviving is her husband John Kreipe, her brother Dwight Gaul and sister-in law Patty, nephews, and great-nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her parents Edgar and Eursalea Gaul.
A Rosary followed by visitation will be held on Friday September 8 th at 5:30 pm at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday September 9 th at 10 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (OCRA) or to Friends of the Animal Shelter of St. Joseph.
