Obituary

Granville Mitchell "Mitch" Brown, 92, of Bolckow, Missouri, went to be with the Lord on May 19, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Granville was born on February 9, 1934, in Farragut, Iowa, to Harvey and Louetta (Parsons) Brown, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his devoted stepfather, Paul Shaffer.

He graduated from Albany High School and married the love of his life, Dorothy "Ellen" Salsbury, on August 20, 1955. Together, they built a beautiful life grounded in faith, family, hard work, and plenty of strong opinions.

Granville proudly served his country in both the Army National Guard and the United States Army for a total of five years, including time stationed in Germany.

A lifelong farmer, Granville spent many years caring for the land he loved. He especially enjoyed his cows, his John Deere tractors, his beloved donkey Kevin, and watching old western television shows. In addition to farming, he worked for Seitz Foods in St. Joseph for 39 years, in which he retired. Even in retirement, Granville's work ethic never faded. He continued working as a farm hand locally, doing what he loved most for the Elliott and Hughes families. He faithfully served PSWD #4 as a founding member until the time of his passing.

A faithful member of Rosendale Christian Church, Granville loved the Lord deeply. He was known for his unmatched work ethic and willingness to help anyone in need. If there was work to be done, Granville was usually halfway finished before anyone else even got started.

Granville was also the founder of the Bolckow Breakfast Club, where he enjoyed gathering with fellow like-minded men and women for breakfast and conversation. Those mornings were among his favorite times — sharing laughter, opinions, a little orneriness, and solving the world's problems.

Granville never met a meal he would turn down, never passed up chocolate, and was rarely short on opinions. He was famously stubborn, quick-witted, and well known for saying, "I'll be darn." Whether you agreed with him or not, you always knew exactly where Granville stood — and somehow, that was part of what made him so deeply loved.

Survivors include his loving wife of more than 70 years, Dorothy "Ellen" Brown of the home; daughters Shelly Langenegger of Omaha, Nebraska, Sonya (Todd) Turner and Ingrid Brown, both of Bolckow, Missouri; grandchildren Haley (Josh) Wright of Tarkio, Missouri, Mark (Caroline) Langenegger of Omaha, Nebraska, Ryan (Kayla) Langenegger of Wilmington, North Carolina, and Hanna (Keaton) Hughes of Bolckow, Missouri; and great-grandchildren Anden, Brinkley, Titus, Charlotte and Willow Wright, Emmaline and Genevieve Langenegger, and August and Brewer Hughes.

He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Miller of Urbandale, Iowa; brother, Larry (Judy) Brown of Omaha, Nebraska; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

Though his family will deeply miss his stubbornness, stories, humor, and steady presence, they find comfort in knowing Granville is now at peace — likely still keeping things in order and letting everyone know exactly how they ought to be done.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Rosendale Christian Church. The family will receive visitors beginning at 1:00 p.m., with the service to follow at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Disabled American Veterans.
