Obituary

Dawn Louise Bunch, 61, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026, surrounded by love and in the care of hospice.

Dawn was born on April 8, 1965, in St. Joseph, Missouri, to Mervin Stegman and Louise Stegman.

Dawn dedicated much of her working life to caring for and helping others. She worked at Walmart as a customer service representative, at Grey Manufacturing, and later at Roger’s Pharmacy as a pharmacy technician—a position she was especially proud of.

Dawn found her greatest joy in the people she loved. She cherished spending time with her grandchildren and could often be found in the stands or on the sidelines supporting them at their sporting events. She loved camping, traveling to Louisiana to visit family, anything involving horses, and spending time with her friends, laughing, making memories, and simply having a good time.

Dawn had a heart that extended far beyond her own family. She was a mom who cared about everyone, not just her own children. She had a way of making people feel loved, welcomed, and cared for. Her kindness, love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to the people in her life will be deeply missed.

In May of 1985, Dawn married Daniel Bunch, who survives at their home in St. Joseph.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel Bunch; her children, Kevin and Cody Bunch and Cody’s wife, Morgan; and her beloved grandchildren, Lainey Bunch, Landon Bunch, and Asher Bunch. She also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who loved her dearly.

Dawn was preceded in death by her parents, Mervin Stegman and Louise Stegman, and her brother, Shawn Stegman.

A visitation will be held Saturday, September 26th, 2026 from 2:00–4:00 p.m. at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Funeral Home in St. Joseph, Missouri. A service and celebration of Dawn’s life will be held at a later date.

Dawn’s life was defined by the love she gave to others. Her family and friends will carry her memory with them, and the love she poured into everyone around her will continue through the people she leaves behind.
